Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the information literacy program organized by the Deli Serdang District Library in enhancing the community’s literacy skills. The research is grounded in the low level of literacy in the region, as reflected in the National Literacy Development Index. A quantitative approach was employed using a One Group Pretest-Posttest design, involving 100 respondents who participated in the program. The findings indicate a significant improvement in participants' information literacy abilities, with the average score increasing from 57.37 (pre-test) to 78.40 (post-test). The paired sample t-test revealed a significance value of < 0.001, confirming the statistical effectiveness of the program. The success of the initiative was supported by the active involvement of librarians and the implementation of the Big6 model as an instructional framework. These results highlight the essential role of libraries in empowering communities through ongoing and user-centered information literacy education.
